Liposuction

Liposuction is an excellent, effective way for patients to tighten and tone stubborn areas of the body that have been resistant to diet and exercise. This procedure can be used to sculpt a leaner abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks, and neck in the short term while preventing fatty deposits from accumulating in these places in the long term.

Miami Aesthetic is committed to serving the diverse population of Miami, FL with the highest quality of cosmetic care. Contact us today for more information about our practice, or to schedule a consultation appointment.

Why Miami Aesthetic?

When patients choose to undergo a liposuction procedure at Miami Aesthetic, they can take comfort in knowing that they will receive high-quality, comprehensive, and individualized care. Before beginning a liposuction procedure, we require that each patient attends a consultation appointment with our office’s Dr. Pazmiño. Dr. Pazmiño takes special care during each pre-operative consultation to learn what each patient’s precise aesthetic goals are for their liposuction procedure, and works diligently with them to customize the procedure to their needs.

How Does Liposuction Work?

Each liposuction procedure begins with the injection of a solution that is a mixture of saline, lidocaine, and a small amount of adrenaline. Lidocaine, a mild anesthetic, is used to improve patient comfort, while adrenaline helps decrease the amount of bruising and bleeding experienced after the procedure. A tiny incision is then made in an inconspicuous place near the treatment area.

Once this incision has been created, one of two liposuction techniques are performed: suction-assisted lipectomy or ultrasonic-assisted lipectomy. During suction-assisted lipectomy, a small tube called a cannula is inserted and moved back and forth underneath the skin. This motion both breaks up the layer of fat in the area and removes it through the cannula. During ultrasonic-assisted lipectomy, ultrasonic energy is aimed at the fat, liquefying it. Once this fat has been liquefied, it is removed with a cannula.

Depending on the amount of fat being removed and the size of the treatment area, each liposuction procedure can last anywhere between 1-5 hours. What Can I Expect After The Procedure?

Once the liposuction surgery has been completed, drainage tubes from surgery are left in, and compression garments must be worn in order to guide the healing process. Antibiotics may also need to be taken to prevent infection. While patients may be able to return to work within a few days of treatment, strenuous activity must be avoided for no less than one month.

While most liposuctions are performed successfully and without complications, some side effects are possible. These include:

  • Infection

  • Longer-than-usual healing time

  • Fat or blood clots

  • Shock

  • Fluid accumulation

The results of liposuction treatments can be seen immediately after the procedure, but continue to become more apparent as the post-surgery swelling subsides. This can take as long as three months.
